The VACUETTE? System
Functionality for simple handling
The main advantage of a user-friendly evacuated specimen collection system with pre-measured vacuum is that a clearly defined quantity of blood, urine or saliva can be collected without further handling requirements. 
VACUETTE? tubes can be changed quickly and hygienically, without any risk of coming into contact with specimen material. By using VACUETTE? Safety Products, a needlestick injury can be effectively prevented.All system components are ideally suited to one another.

Blood Collection Tubes
The innovative VACUETTE? Blood Collection Tubes made out of virtually unbreakable PET plastic have set the standard on today‘s market. 
They provide improved safety and hygiene during specimen collection procedures with the advantage of being as clear as glass. Most VACUETTE? Blood Collection Tubes contain chemical additives, which in combination with the pre-determined vacuum guarantee the correct mixing ratio for the blood sample. Reliable results and simple application make VACUETTE? the primary vessel for all current analysis instruments. All the tubes have the CE-mark and most are US FDA cleared.

?	Coagulation sodium citrate / CTAD
Coagulation and CTAD tubes are used for examination of coagulation parameters. Coagulation tubes contain a buffered sodium citrate solution. It is available with a citrate concentration of 0.109 mol/l (3.2%) or 0.129 mol/l (3.8%). The mixing ratio is: 1 part citrate solution to 9 parts blood. In addition to buffered sodium citrate, CTAD tubes contain theophylline, adenosine and dipyridamol.

?	Serum
The inner wall of the serum tube is specially coated with microscopic silica particles,which activate the coagulation process. Serum separator tubes contain a separation gel in the base of the tube; during centrifugation, this gel forms a stable barrier between the serum and the blood cells.

?	Heparin
The inner wall of the tube is coated with spray-dried lithium, sodium, or ammonium heparin. These additives are anti-coagulants, which activate anti-thrombins, thus blocking the coagulation cascade of the blood specimen. LH Lithium Heparin Tubes are also available with a separator gel.

?	K2E K2EDTA Sep
K2EDTA Sep Tubes are for the examination of EDTA plasma for molecular diagnostics and for viral load determinations.

?	No Additive
These tubes do not contain any additives. They can, for example, be used for CSF determinations or puncture specimens.

?	Discard Tubes
The VACUETTE? Discard Tube is not for analysis. The tube interior contains no additive. When using a (safety) blood collection set to draw a coagulation sample, a discard tube should be taken first. This will prime the line to reduce any deadspace and ensure that the coagulation tube will not be underfilled.

?	Blood Grouping
Blood grouping tubes are available in two formulations, ACD-A, ACD-B or with a CPDA solution. Blood grouping tubes are for blood grouping determinations and also for cell preservation.

?	Homocysteine
Homocysteine occurs in cell metabolism as an intermediary product during the catabolisation of methionine. A higher concentration of homocysteine in the blood can increase the risk for cardio and cerebrovascular blockages. Determination of the homocysteine concentration in plasma is therefore carried out for primary prevention - and sometimes for secondary prevention - of heart attacks and strokes.

?	Crossmatch
Crossmatch Tubes are available in two versions. The Z Crossmatch Serum Clot Activator Tube contains a clotting activator and is suitable for crossmatch tests when serum is required for testing material. The K3E Crossmatch K3EDTA Tube is suitable when the testing material required is blood cells.
